What do I enjoy about the work I do?I can't articulate well enough in words the feeling when I see a student have a breakthrough and allow that motivation to carry them through to the next level of growth. It is immensely gratifying to know that they did all of the work through their own will and determination and that I helped have a part in guiding them along that path.
What is my process for working with a new student?
I will use the first lesson as an assessment to see what level the student is at and also their learning and retention level. Once that has been established I give them an easy to follow lesson plan custom tailored for them.
What are my qualifications?
I have pedagogical experience as part of my music performance degree from Stetson University. I have taught and performed for over 15 years for students interested in jazz, pop and classical styles. I specialize in ear training, music theory and practice techniques that maximize your playing efficiency by more than double.
Do I have a standard pricing system for your private lessons?
Yes. I prefer to speak pricing over the phone but the pricing depends largely on if the lessons are done online or in person at the students' residence (for those in the Central FL area). Online Lessons are now being offered at a discounted rate due to COVID-19. Click here to learn more.
How did I get started teaching?
I played in church growing up and congregation members would always ask for lessons for their children. I started a piano teaching business in church and ever since then have enjoyed seeing my students grow immensely and go on to enjoy the piano in their careers whether it be in music or not.
What types of students have I worked with?
I've had very talented prodigy like students who applied themselves and excelled rapidly and I've had students who wanted to enjoy the piano as therapy. All my lesson plans are custom tailored to the student's interests, abilities and what I determine will be the best foundation for them individually based on our assessment from the first lesson.
What should a student look for in a teacher?
Find a teacher who is compatible with you personality wise and that listens to and attends to your needs and concerns at the piano. There are far too many teachers out there that have many students who they all teach the same way. This may work for most of their students but there are the few who do not get their needs attended to. That is why I custom tailor each lesson plan of each student to maximize their enjoyment and productivity at the piano.
What questions should students think through before talking to teachers about their needs?
When asking a question please do not hold your concerns back out of fear of upsetting the teacher. We're here to help and the more we know about your issues, the better we can help you. The piano studio is a place of non-judgement and anything that is asked there will be respected for the betterment of you, your process for growth musically and for your enjoyment at the piano.

In just a couple of hours, Harry was able to get me to think about musical patterns in a way that I never imagined. I had trouble being able to pinpoint the key in the songs I sang and he was there to correct me along the way until I was able to instantly locate the key to any song I listened to.

Harry's teaching was very insightful and he got me to instantly understand how I can retain a song I've learned on the piano by knowing simple theory behind it but in a very streamlined and organic way. I started to play a new song immediately by ear and that was in just one lesson!

Harry completely changed the way I think about playing at the piano. He focused attention on technique, meticulously playing by ear, showed me how to save loads of time in my practice and get me to learn twice as fast. His advice is worth well over the price.
